CocoRosie is a French-American acid folk group formed in 2003. They are a duo formed by sisters Bianca (Coco) and Sierra (< i>Rosie) Casady, who produces music mixing styles as varied as lyrical singing, gospel and lo-fi pop.

Biography

The group Cocorosie was formed in France, but Sierra, the oldest, was born in Iowa, and Bianca in Hawaii. Her mother called them Rosie and Coco respectively, and from there they took their stage names. Both grew up separately and it was not until 2003 that they met in Paris, when they began their artistic journey.

Stylistically they are found within indie rock or experimental folk, sometimes associating them with the "New Weird America" movement.

Sierra plays guitar, piano, harp, sings (often as a soprano), and dances. Bianca sings in a peculiar falsetto, she is in charge of the extra sounds, the group usually also includes different sounds of objects such as rattles and toys with animal sounds, Chinese flutes, radio recorders, etc. to give personal shape to your sound.

His first album, La Maison de mon rêve, unclassifiable, was recorded in the Parisian neighborhood of Montmartre in his bathroom because the acoustics were better than in the other rooms. They took advantage of the noises in their environment, which produces a dreamlike sensation. In a psychedelic and champagne atmosphere.

The second album, Noah's Ark, came out in 2005 and was made with the collaboration of several of his very talented friends from the indie-pop scene. rock. Thus, Anohni (from the group Antony and the Johnsons) made a noteworthy appearance on the song Beautiful Boyz. The new leader of the new-old-folk movement Devendra Banhart also appears on the song Brazilian Sun. Also appearing on the album is the magnificent performance of the French rapper Spleen on the song Bisounours.

For her part, Sierra Casady opened a break in this collaboration in 2006 with the creation of the group Metallic Falcons with Matteah Baim (the head of the Voodoo-Eros record label). She also makes some appearances with friends, most notably Anohni and Devendra Banhart.

In 2007, with the release of their third album The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn, the Casady sisters opened themselves to new experiences and new influences, they discovered new rhythms such as Hip-hop, where it counts with the collaboration of his friend and beatboxer, Tez. In the form of a story (Wee Willie Winkie, a character who always wore pajamas and who was her idol during adolescence), Sierra and Bianca become Bloody Twins. This album also evokes certain aspects of contemporary society, such as the song Japan, in which artists of American origin highlight the situation in Iraq. On the other hand, during her time in the French capital, at Grand Rex, on the day of the album's presentation, she played the American anthem a little distorted before starting Rainbowarriors. Devendra Banhart, a personal friend of Bianca, collaborates with them again on this album as composer of the song Houses.

Their single God Has a Voice, She Speaks Through Me was the last one released under the Touch & Go Records. It corresponds to a 7" limited edition. The song has a more electronic tone than in previous albums, moving away a little from his style.

The EP Coconuts, Plenty of Junk Food is its own production that was only sold at concerts at the end of 2009. The songs follow the trend of their previous production, with more use of elements of the electronic genre, especially if contrasted with his first album. It should be noted that that year they toured the United States, their native country, where they had not been in a long time.

In 2010, the sisters released their album Gray Oceans. It was released on April 30 under the Sub Pop Records label. According to the Casady sisters, it is the closing of a process, it is not a return to the initial state of her career, but a return to a more acoustic sound.

They made their return to music in 2013 with the album Tales of a GrassWidow. Two singles were released from this, which were "Gravedigress" and "After the Afterlife", both with their respective video. They achieved moderate success with this album.

In 2015 they released the album Heartache City, recorded in different countries, the main one being Argentina. The album was led by the single "Un Beso", this being the duo's first song to have a title in the Spanish language. That same year, Bianca Casady announced her first group, with the nickname & # 34; Bianca Casady and the C.i.A. & # 34; and the first album titled "Oscar Hoks"; set to be released on January 22, 2016 under the Atlas Chair/FANTASYmusic label. The lead single from this is called "Poor Deal".
