Cliometrics

Clyometrics is the analysis methodology that systematically uses economic theory, statistics and econometrics for the study of economic history.

The term was coined in the 1960s by Jonathan R.T. Hughes and Stanley Reiter. Its name derives from Clío, Greek muse of History, and metría, measurement.

In 1993, the Nobel Prize in Economics went to Robert Fogel and Douglass North in part for their contribution to the establishment of cliometrics, in particular "for having renewed research in economic history by using economic theory and of quantitative methods to explain institutional and economic change"
