Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Doubter
The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Incredulous (original title in English The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant) is a series of ten novels by epic fantasy written by Stephen R. Donaldson and published between 1977 and 2013. The series is made up of the eponymous trilogy which was followed by a second trilogy entitled Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Incredulous and a tetralogy called < i>The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, not yet translated into Spanish.
Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever
Thomas Covenant is a leper who is unconscious as a result of an accident and arrives in an unknown world, where magic reigns. His disbelief at what is happening to him is an element that is present throughout the work, since he understands that it is the best way to defend himself from the madness of thinking that this world would be real and not an illusion due to the accident suffered.
Shares with Tolkien's works the vast construction of a world with its own rules, cultures and geography, as well as magic and heroism as storytelling elements. However, the introspection and complexity of Donaldson's characters take him away from Tolkien's mythical literature, where the characters are more stereotyped.
The inspiration in J. R. R. Tolkien is clear in several ways. The clearest is that the most important or most important magical item is the Covenant white gold ring, just as in Tolkien's novel The Lord of the Rings the One Ring is the lynchpin. Of the plot.
