Christopher Sean Lowe (Blackpool, Lancashire, October 4, 1959) has been the British keyboardist for the duo Pet Shop Boys since 1981.

Biography

Youth

Lowe attended Arnold School, an independent school in his hometown of Blackpool, Lancashire. He also worked in the Solarium. While there, Lowe played trombone in a seven-piece dance band called "One Under the Eight," which played classics like "Hello Dolly", "La Bamba" 3. 4; and "Moon River". Lowe's grandfather had played the trombone and was a member of the jazz group 'The Nitwits'. Lowe also became a skilled pianist.

Education

Lowe studied architecture at the University of Liverpool from 1978, but never graduated due to the formation of the Pet Shop Boys, as he stated several times on television appearances and in the documentary 'Life in Pop'. While doing an architectural internship in London in 1981, he designed a staircase for a Milton Keynes industrial park. At this time he met Neil Tennant at a hi-fi shop on the Kings Road in London.

Pet Shop Boys

Lowe usually fills the role of keyboardist for the Pet Shop Boys; on some occasions he has performed the choir accompaniment.

On the song "I Want A Lover," Lowe played the trombone, which he studied in school. In the liner notes for the album Please, Tennant and Lowe commented: “T: Chris brought his trombone into the studio. He didn't really want to do it & # 34;. L: " [Producer] Blue Weaver insisted. I learned to play the trombone when I was about ten years old. My grandfather played the trombone."

Solo Appearances

In 1993 he wrote and produced the song "Do the Right Thing" for footballer Ian Wright (Lowe is a passionate fan of Arsenal F.C.). The song featured backing vocals by singer Sylvia Mason-James, who had collaborated many times with the Pet Shop Boys, and remixes by Rollo Armstrong.

In 1995, Lowe had a cameo appearance on the Australian soap opera Neighbours. His appearance was filmed during a Pet Shop Boys tour of Australia.

In 2004, Lowe was commissioned to score an ad for a Blockhead brand sunscreen. The song ended up being covered and remixed on the chill out music compilation "Café Mambo". [citation required]

In 2006, he wrote the music for the song "Streets of Berlin," performed for the revival of Bent at "Trafalgar Studios" in Whitehall.

In 2011, Lowe appeared as a guest vocalist on the version performed by "Stop Modernists" from the New Order song "Subculture". It was the first time Lowe had appeared as a vocalist on a project outside of the Pet Shop Boys.
