Charqueadas is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

It is located at a latitude of 29º57'17" South and a longitude of 51º37'31" West, being at a height of 30 meters above sea level. Its estimated population for the year 2004 was 32,631 inhabitants.

It occupies an area of 459,569 km².

Charqueadas is an industrial zone, where you will find:

  • an underground coal mine that operated until 1990, was operated by: Copelmi Mineração Ltda.;
  • River port on the Jacui River.
  • a thermoelectric power plant capable of generating 99,000 kW of power, owned by Tractebel Energía S/A;
  • a metallurgical for the production of special steels, the "Aços Especiais Piratini" operated by the group Gerdau, 80% of whose production is destined to the automotive industry.
