Charles Philip of Sweden, Duke of Värmland (born Carl Philip Edmund Bertil Bernadotte; Stockholm, Sweden, May 13, 1979), is the second son of Kings Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Silvia. He is Prince of Sweden and Duke of Värmland. Upon his birth in 1979, he became Crown Prince until the end of that year; Later, the title was awarded to his sister Victoria. Biography

Birth

He was born on May 13, 1979 at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. He was born as crown prince of Sweden, but through a constitutional decree, which came into force on January 1, 1980, he lost first place in the succession to the throne, so he became second behind his older sister. Victory.

Education

During the period 1984-1986, Prince Carl Philip attended the Västerled parish pre-school. In the autumn of 1986 he began studying at the public school at Smedslättsskolan in Bromma. For the intermediate level, he attended the Ålstensskolan school also in Bromma. In autumn 1992, he moved to the senior level at Enskilda Gymnasiet in Stockholm.

In the fall of 1994 he attended Kent, a private school in Connecticut, where he spent two years, and then continued his studies in a science program at Lundsberg High School where he graduated in the spring of 1999.

During the period 2003-2006 he studied graphic design at Forsbergs Skola, in Stockholm, and has shown a great interest in design and drawing. In the fall of 2007, the prince studied at the Försvarshögskolan (University Defense College). In the spring of 2008 he studied business economics.

In January 2009 he began his studies in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Alnarp, staying in a Renaissance castle with his friend Hernik Weijber.

Military career

The prince finished his military service in the Amphibious Infantry Battalion of the Vaxholm Coast Artillery as a commander of a combat ship (combat ship 80) in the fall of 2000. In December 2002, he was promoted to second lieutenant and in 2008 to captain of the Swedish Navy. He is currently a reserve officer.

Hobbies

He is a great sports fan and his interests include exploration, the outdoors, hunting, athletics, soccer, swimming, skiing and sailing.

Cars and motorsports are also among his interests, shared with some of his relatives. The prince has a license to compete and in 2008 he participated in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia (a competition in which drivers drive their Porsche cars 911 GT3 RS) on April 19-20 at the Knutstorp Autodrom, 40km from Helsingborg, reaching the finish line in 20th place.

In October 2008 he went to Alicante at the start of the Volvo Ocean Race, where he attended as a representative of the Swedish royal family. He also attended the events held in Stockholm and Saint Petersburg.

Marriage and offspring

Dating and commitment

In August 2010, the spokesperson for the Swedish royal house confirmed that the prince was in a relationship with Sofia Hellqvist. In April 2013, the couple began living together in a private apartment in Djurgården.

Wedding

The wedding between Carl Philip and Sofia was celebrated on June 13, 2015 in the Chapel of the Royal Palace in Stockholm, and was officiated by Bishop Emeritus Lars Goran. The banquet took place at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.

After the wedding, the renovation of Villa Solbacken began, a mansion located east of Stockholm, in the Djurgården neighborhood, where her great-uncles, Princes Bertil and Lilian of Sweden, resided, and which was going to be the couple's home once married. King Carl Gustav announced, two days after the birth, that the new prince would be called Alexander Eric Humberto Bertil, and that he would hold the title of Duke of Södermanland.

In March 2017, the royal house issued a statement confirming Princess Sofia's second pregnancy. The couple's second child, Gabriel Carlos Walther, was born on August 31, 2017 at the hospital in Danderyd, and holds the title of Duke of Dalarna.

The couple announced on December 11, 2020 that they were expecting their third child. Their third child, a boy, was born on March 26, 2021 at Danderyd Hospital. His name is Julián Herbert Folke and he holds the title of Duke of Halland.
