Cecilia Roth
Cecilia Edith Rotenberg Gutkin (Buenos Aires, August 8, 1956), better known as Cecilia Roth, is an Argentine theater, film and television actress.
She began to gain international recognition by working alongside acclaimed director Pedro Almodóvar in the 1980s, and starred in All About My Mother in 1999, an Oscar-winning film.
She was awarded twice at the Goya Awards and won the European Film Award for Best Actress, being the only Argentine and Latin American actress to receive said award.
Among his filmography in cinema are the acclaimed Martín (Hache), A night with Sabrina Love, Kamchatka, Pain and Glory and The Angel. On television, she began playing supporting roles in the television series Atreverse. Later, she starred in two episodes of Mujeres Assassines and starred in the series Trátame bien.
Biography
His father, Abrasha Rotenberg, is a Jew of Ukrainian origin who settled in the 1930s in Buenos Aires, where he worked as a writer, editor and journalist. Cecilia's mother, Dina Gutkin Saposnik, was the singer Dina Rot, who was born in Mendoza and spent her childhood in Santiago, Chile. Her brother Ariel Rot is also a musician and lives in Spain.
She began as an actress in her country until 1976 when she settled in Spain fleeing the military dictatorship. Between 1989 and 1992 she was married to Gonzalo Gil, after which she married the Argentine singer-songwriter Fito Páez, with whom she adopted a son, Martín; the couple separated in 2001.
He has not stopped working in Argentina despite fully succeeding in Spanish cinema since his first appearances in The Green Prairies, by José Luis Garci, Arrebato, by Iván Zulueta, and Labyrinth of Passions, by Pedro Almodóvar.
Among his most relevant films are A Place in the World and Martín (Hache), both by Adolfo Aristarain, as well as his leading role in Everything about my mother, also by Almodóvar; With both directors she obtained two Goya awards for best actress.
On television he starred in the soap operas Por amor, along with Arnaldo André and Marita Ballesteros; Nine moons; and the unitary Laura and Zoe, together with Susú Pecoraro, Epitafios, together with Julio Chávez and Leonardo Sbaraglia, and Tretame bien, again together to Chavez.
In addition to making films and television, he has also dedicated himself to making theater in both Argentina and Spain. From 2013 to 2014 he worked on Philippe Blasband's work A pornographic relationship, alongside Darío Grandinetti.
She was a founding member of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Argentina and second vice president of its first board of directors.
In 2022 he received the Gold Medal from the Spanish Film Academy.
