"Círcol Catòlic de Badalona" (in Spanish: "Círculo Católico de Badalona") is the official name of a sports and cultural entity in Badalona (Barcelona, Spain. It was founded on March 19, 1879 as a result of the union of two Catholic entities, the "Círcol Catòlic d'Obrers del Puríssim Cor de Maria" and the "Círcol de Sant Josep". From the beginning the "Círcol" It had a religious character, but also cultural and recreational, which is why it created sports, artistic and leisure sections.

The successes of the basketball team

One of the activities that gave the most prestige and fame to the "Círcol Catòlic" It was basketball. He created the section in 1941 and, in a short time, converted the & # 34; Círculo Católico & # 34; in one of the best entities in Catalan and Spanish basketball.

In 1944 he achieved promotion to the first division and competed in the highest Spanish basketball competitions.

In 1957 it participated in the first Spanish Basketball League and remained in the first division until the 1969/70 season, when it was relegated to the third division. The 1971/1972 season with Domènec Tallada as President promoted to the second division and in 1973 it was promoted again to the first division with a team formed by Ezequiel Barrios, Antoni Baqué, Josep Machado, Josep Mañosa, Ricard Horta, Enric Campos, Josep Cisa, E. Buñuel, Pere Suñol, Josep Vila, Joan Costa. The coach was Josep Xicart.

The golden years of Cotonificio

In the mid-70s the Círculo Católico obtained sponsorship from the Badalona company Cotonificio, which meant a great economic and sporting boost for the club. Since then, the team was known as "Cotonificio de Badalona".

In 1978 they achieved fourth place in the Spanish League and qualified to compete in the Korac Cup the following season, in which they reached the semi-finals.

In the 1980-1981 season they played in the final of the Catalan Basketball League, which they lost to FC Barcelona by 90 to 73.

In those years in which Domènec Tallada and later Pere Antoja presided, players and coaches such as Manel Comas, José María Oleart, Aíto García Reneses, Joaquim Costa, Andrés Jiménez, Héctor Perotas, Agustín Cuesta, Javier Mendiburu, were part of the club. Adolfo Sada and Jack Schroeder among others.

The sponsorship of the Cotonificio company remained until 1983. The withdrawal of the sponsor and the lack of financial liquidity forced the Círculo Católico to give up competing in the ACB League. Círcol gave the federative license to BCC Santa Coloma which, with the sponsorship of the company Licor 43, took its place in the ACB League. In the seventies, the singer Loquillo from Loquillo y los trogloditas came to play on the junior team, under the command of Juanito Jiménez, the club's historic coach as assistant to Aíto García Reneses and junior coach. The Círculo Católico temporarily dismantled the basketball section, but restarted it a year later, in 1984, although in a very different situation from previous years: the first team had to start compete again in the last category of Catalan basketball, and the entity had only six teams in the quarry.

In 2005, the Círculo Católico had eighty players divided into pre-infant, cadet, junior, and under-21 teams, and the senior team competes in the Catalonia Cup.
