The Catatumbo River is a river in northern South America, which originates in the department of Norte de Santander, in the eastern part of Colombia, specifically on the Cerro de Jurisdicciones at 3,850 m above sea level.. n. m., in the municipality of Ábrego, to the west of the department, and flows into Venezuela into Lake Maracaibo, to which it contributes about 60% of its fresh water.
