Catalunya Ràdio
Catalunya Ràdio is a Spanish, general radio station with a Catalan scope. It is the main station of the autonomous public broadcasting service in Catalonia, also made up of three other stations (Catalunya Informació, Catalunya Música, and iCat).. It is part, together with Television of Catalonia, of the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation. Catalunya Ràdio broadcasts general programming, entirely in Catalan.
History
Home
In 1983, the autonomous government of Catalonia, under the protection of its Statute of Autonomy, decided to launch its first radio station, with the aim of promoting and disseminating the Catalan language and culture. On October 1, 1982, Jordi Costa Riera was appointed director of the Catalunya Ràdio project. On April 28, 1983, the Diagonal premises, 614, were purchased, which would later become the Catalunya Ràdio studios, a name that was approved on May 13 of the same year. The first radio signals were broadcast on June 17 and finally at midnight on June 19 to 20, 1983, the station began its broadcasts, with Miquel Calçada being chosen to pronounce the first words, accompanied by a song by the Catalan singer-songwriter Lluís Llach. The words in Catalan were the following; «They are the zero hours, zero minutes of June 20, 1983. At that moment I began a beautiful and important story: the inn in Marx of Catalunya Ràdio.» However, Catalunya Ràdio was not the first station to broadcast in the Catalan language, Ràdio Barcelona had already done so during the first third of the 20th century.
Expansion
One year later, in March 1984, Catalunya Ràdio achieved coverage of 80% of the territory and 90% of the Catalan population. In 1986 the territorial delegations came into operation. In 1989, six years after his birth, he led the audiences in Catalonia for the first time. Since 1994 this leadership has been maintained uninterruptedly until 2009, when it handed over the testimony to RAC1.
In 1995 Josep Maria Clavaguera was elected director of Catalunya Ràdio, a position he held until 2002 when he was dismissed by the then director of the Catalan Radio and Television Corporation, Miquel Puig. Eugeni Cabanes, a journalist who will direct the public station for two years, is appointed as his replacement.
Twentieth anniversary
In 2003 the station's twentieth anniversary was celebrated, using the motto "The strength of 20 years" (motto that was shared with the television network TV3). For this reason, during the month of June of the same year, a group of listeners and the majority of the station's team enjoyed a cruise through the Mediterranean Sea. In addition, on June 21, The twentieth anniversary concert of Catalunya Ràdio was held, a concert that took place at the Liceu and was broadcast live by the same station and by the television channel a, then known as Channel 33. In 2004 Montserrat Minobis took over as director of Catalunya Ràdio, in a period marked by internal instability in the company, which led to a strike by its workers in 2005 and the departure of two of its main stars, Toni Clapés and Jordi Basté, to RAC1. In July 2005, one year after taking office, Minobis left the management to Oleguer Sarsanedas. For the 2005/06 season, journalists Joan Barril joins the program El café de la República, Bernat Soler at the helm of Els millors anys de la nostra vida and Xavier Grasset, who fills the afternoons with the magazine De quatre a set. However, the new space failed to maintain Toni Clapés' audience, being replaced a year later by another magazine, On vols anar a parar?, with Llucià Ferrer at the helm. Likewise, the 2006/07 season also marks the return of Manel Fuentes to the station, with the space Problemes doméstics.
Twenty-fifth anniversary
The station celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary by presenting special programming during the 2007-2008 season. The official celebration took place on June 20, 2008 at the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, where a show inspired by Orson Welles' The War of the Worlds was performed. About fifty professionals who then worked at the station, or who had worked, participated. The show was presented by Josep Maria Pou and directed by Enric Llort and included a chronicle of the most relevant news of the last twenty-five years. During the 2007/08 season the usual programming was: El matí de Catalunya Ràdio (presented by Antoni Bassas); Domestic Problems (presented by Manel Fuentes); L'oracle (presented by Xavier Grasset); On vols anar a parar? (presented by Llucià Ferrer); L'ofici de viure (presented by Gaspar Hernández); El supplement (presented by Xavier Solà); Tot gira (presented by Marc Negre); Catalunya vespre (presented by Kilian Sebrià); The coffee of the republic (presented by Joan Barril); Els millors anys de la nostra vida (presented by Bernat Soler); L'esport al punt; La finestra indiscreta(presented by Àlex Gorina); Mans (presented by Quim Rutllant and Ester Plana); Els 25 (presented by Mireia Mallol); Selective Memory (presented by Jordi García-Soler); TR3S C (presented by Núria Farré); L'hora de les Bruixes (presented by Santi Carreras); Human Geography (presented by Maite Sadurní); L'hora de Plutó (presented by Núria Ribó) and Tàpias variades (presented by Pere Tàpias).
In the 2008/09 season the station undergoes a major programmatic remodeling, with notable changes in its main spaces: the morning show, El matí de Catalunya Ràdio, the afternoon show, < i>On vols anar a parar and the weekend magazine show, El suplement. In this last one, Xavier Solà abandons the presentation of the program after twenty years, to take charge of a new space on the station: Concurs d'idees. Núria Ribó takes over. In the afternoons, the station replaces Llucià Ferrer's show with Hem de parlar, a program hosted by three presenters: Marta Alonso, Flora Saura and Míriam Fuster. Finally, in El matí de Catalunya Ràdio, Neus Bonet replaces Antoni Bassas, after fourteen years at the helm of the most listened to radio program in Catalonia. On July 18, 2007, on the occasion of the last program, dozens of listeners gathered at the doors of the station to show their rejection of Bassas's march, considering it a political retaliation, since a few months before Joan Ferran, deputy of the Socialists Party of Catalonia, had accused the announcer of taking advantage of the public station to launch nationalist harangues. Another of the notable changes of the season is the recovery of a historic program of the station, eliminated four years ago, La nit dels ignorants, presented in this new stage by Mireia Mallol.
In the 2009/10 season the programs are: El matí de Catalunya Ràdio (presented and directed by Manel Fuentes); Tot és molt confús (presented and directed by Pere Mas); L'informatiu migdia (presented by Victoria Vilaplana in general information, Robert Prat in sports, and directed by Joan García); L'oracle (presented and directed by Xavier Graset); El secret (presented and directed by Sílvia Cóppulo); Catalunya vespre (presented and edited by Kilian Sebrià, with the sub-editorship of Carme Clèrie); Catalunya vespre esports (presented and performed by Òscar Fernández); L'ofici de viure (presented and directed by Gaspar Hernández); The café of the republic (presented and directed by Joan Barril); The mitjanit club (presented and directed by Pere Escobar); La nit dels ignorants (presented and performed by Mireia Mallol); El visitor (presented and directed by Enric Lucena); Mans (presented and directed by Quim Rutllant and Esther Plana); Tàpias variades (presented and directed by Pere Tàpias); El supplement (presented and directed by Núria Ferre); Solidaris (presented and directed by Rita Marzoa); Tot gira (presented and edited by Marc Negre); Digital Generation (presented and performed by Jordi Sellas); TR3S C (presented and performed by Dolors Martínez); L'internauta (presented and performed by Vicent Partal); L'hora de les bruixes (presented and performed by Santi Carreras); La finestra indiscreta (presented and performed by Àlex Gorina); Human Geography (presented and directed by Maite Sadurní); Paraules de vida (presented and performed by Emili Pacheco); Eduqueu les criatures (presented and performed by Carles Capdevila); En guàrdia (presented and directed by Enric Calpena); Selective Memory (presented and performed by Jordi García-Soler); Vist i no vist (presented and directed by Valentí San Juan); L'hora de plutó (presented and performed by Nuria Ribó); L'Informatiu del migdia de cap de setmana (presented and edited by Marta Bellès) and Catalunya Matí (presented and edited by Francesc Soler).
In the 2010/11 season, the station tried to maintain the same programming that it had had during the previous season, and proposed to give more presence to the participation of listeners through the use of different social networks. In this way, during the 2010/11 season El matí de Catalunya Ràdio is broadcast (presented and directed by Manel Fuentes); Tot és molt confús (presented and directed by Pere Mas); L'informatiu migdia (presented by Victoria Vilaplana and directed and edited by Joan García); L'informatiu migdia esports (presented and edited by Robert Prat); L'oracle (presented and directed by Xavier Graset); El secret (presented and directed by Sílvia Cóppulo); Catalunya vespre (presented and edited by Kilian Sebrià, with the sub-editorship of Carme Clèries); Catalunya vespre esports (presented and performed by Òscar Fernández); L'ofici de viure (presented and directed by Gaspar Hernández); The café of the republic (presented and directed by Joan Barril); The mitjanit club (presented and directed by Pere Escobar); La nit dels ignorants (presented and performed by Xavier Solà); The visitor (made by Enric Lucena); Mans (presented and directed by Quim Rutllant and Esther Plana); El suplement (presented and directed by Tatiana Sisquella); Solidaris (presented and directed by Rita Marzoa); Tot gira (presented and edited by Marc Negre); Digital Generation (presented and performed by Jordi Sellas); La finestra indiscreta (presented and performed by Àlex Gorina); Human Geography (presented and directed by Maite Sadurní); Paraules de vida (presented and performed by Emili Pacheco); En guàrdia (presented and directed by Enric Calpena); L'hora de plutó (presented and performed by Nuria Ribó); L'Informatiu del migdia de cap de semana (presented and edited on weekends by Marta Sànchez); Catalunya Matí (presented and edited by Francesc Soler); Avui plays (presented and directed by Anna Ayala); El matí en festiu (presented and directed by Francesc Soler); Converses (directed and presented by Jordi García-Soler). Dossier CR (made by Esther Garriga); Fora de catàleg (made by Xavier Salvà) and Per començar el dia (made by Magda Llurba).
In the 2011/12 season the programming underwent very few changes. On May 2, 2012, the governing council of the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation announced the change of director of Catalunya Ràdio, which was Fèlix Riera. Ramón Mateu Ledadot, former director since June 2009, was appointed director of strategies and brand of the CCMA. The programs of the 2011/12 season are: El matí de Catalunya Ràdio (presented and directed by Manel Fuentes); Tot és molt confús (presented and directed by Pere Mas); Tenim un punt (presented by Francesc Garriga); L'informatiu migdia (presented by Marta Romagosa); L'oracle (presented and directed by Xavier Graset); La tribu de Catalunya Ràdio (presented and directed by Tatiana Sisquella); Catalunya vespre (presented and edited by Kilian Sebrià, with the sub-editorship of Carme Clèries); Catalunya vespre esports (presented and performed by Òscar Fernández); The café of the republic (presented and directed by Joan Barril); The mitjanit club (presented and directed by Pere Escobar); La nit dels ignorants (presented and performed by Xavier Solà); The visitor (made by Enric Lucena); Mans (presented and directed by Quim Rutllant and Esther Plana); El suplement (presented and directed by Silvia Cóppulo); L'ofici de viure (presented and directed by Gaspar Hernández); Solidaris (presented and directed by Rita Marzoa); Tot gira (presented and edited by Marc Negre); Digital Generation (presented and performed by Jordi Sellas); La finestra indiscreta (presented and performed by Àlex Gorina); Human Geography (presented and directed by Maite Sadurní); Paraules de vida (presented and performed by Emili Pacheco); En guàrdia (presented and directed by Enric Calpena); L'Informatiu del migdia de cap de semana (presented and edited on weekends by Francesc Soler); Catalunya Matí (presented and edited by Marta Sánchez); Avui plays (presented and directed by Anna Ayala); El matí de Catalunya Ràdio in Festius intrasetmanals (presented and directed by Francesc Soler); Converses (directed and presented by Jordi García-Soler); Dossier CR (made by Esther Garriga); Fora de catàleg (made by Xavier Salvà); and Per començar el dia (performed by Magda Llurba).
Thirtieth anniversary
In 2013 Catalunya Ràdio celebrates its 30th anniversary with special activities and programs. In August 2013, the workers of Catalunya Ràdio accepted a pre-agreement from the ERO, which affected a number of workers for a period of four years. The most relevant changes of that season were Mònica Terribas as the new presenter and director dr Catalunya Ràdio's El matí, the birth of a new sexuality program Les mil i una nits by Maria de la Pau Janer and finally the replacement of Marc Negre, presenter of the sports program Tot gira, by David Clupés.
In July 2015, Fèlix Riera was dismissed from the station's management. Some politicians accused the CCMA of doing so for political reasons, although it always denied it. These accusations were based on the fact that Riera was a member of the Democratic Union of Catalonia, a party that at that time had separated from Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya. On January 12, 2016, it was announced that Saül Gordillo would be the new director of the station. In 2015, the band from Projecte Mut on TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio, which bore the name Junts, starred in the song of the summer.
On October 21, 2017, in the context of the independence process of Catalonia, Catalunya Ràdio, TV3, and the Catalan News Agency (ACN), were threatened by the Spanish Government. The same announced the Government's intention to intervene in the Catalan public media through the application of article 155. After the application of article 155, the workers of Catalunya Ràdio were urged to comply with new regulations. of style, changing or modifying some expressions. In this way, one of the most mediatic linguistic changes (among many others) was that the Catalan politicians who were in prison should be called "political prisoners" and they could not be cited as "political prisoners". Despite this, some workers ignored the new instructions and continued using their own language, as in the especially relevant case of Mònica Terribas in the program El matí de Catalunya Ràdio, highly politicizing the contents. of the program, which caused major conflicts with non-independence citizens who violently protested in front of the station's headquarters and saturated the telephone lines to boycott the programs.
