Carlos Vives
Carlos Alberto Vives Restrepo (Santa Marta, August 7, 1961) is a Colombian singer-songwriter, record producer, philanthropist and actor, pioneer and creator of a new sound from traditional genres of the Colombian music like cumbia and vallenato. He has won two Grammy Awards and fifteen Latin Grammy Awards.
With 17 gramophones in his possession, he was the first Colombian to be awarded a Grammy Award from the American Recording Academy. He received the Billboard Hall of Fame Award and was inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame, as well as receiving the Icon Award at the Musa Awards. In Spain, he won the Ondas award and twice the Amigo Award, delivered by the Principality of Asturias.
Biography
1980s
He moves to Bogotá and studies Advertising and specializes in television production at Jorge Tadeo Lozano University.
In 1982 he played the role of Julián in the telenovela Tiempo sin huella, about a romantic adolescent dreamer who seeks to make his way as an artist. With this role he became known nationally. During that same year he acted in the David Copperfield mini-series in which he played the leading role. He shared the screen with Sofía Morales, Rebeca López and Tuty Amaya, he also does television commercials.
The following year he had the opportunity to be in a children's television series called Little Giants, thanks to the invitation of director Tony Navia. His role was that of Guineo, a kind of comical and cartoonish Tarzan always surrounded by a large number of children. He participated in jungle adventures, with ambitious missionaries and expeditionaries. He did everything on that show from singing, dancing, acting, creating plots and stories and even learning small screen techniques. Later, in 1984, he acted in the soap opera El Faraón, where he played Capitolino Rojas. He acted alongside Nelly Moreno, Lucero Gómez and Clemencia de Santos, under the direction of Jaime Santos. The antagonist of the story was Jorge Emilio Salazar. His next project was the 1985 telenovela Tuyo es mi corazón, playing Carlos Sánchez. He shared the spotlight with Amparo Grisales, along with Jimmie Bernal, Guillermo Gálvez and Maltilde Suescún.
In 1986 he had his third leading role, as Javier Ramírez in the telenovela Gallito Ramírez. The character is a small-town and dreamy boy, who spends his days pursuing his dream of being a boxer. He shared the leading role with the Colombian Margarita Rosa de Francisco, who was going to be his wife in 1988. With this role, Vives became known internationally, especially in Puerto Rico and the United States. That year he also recorded his first musical album, titled Por fuera y por dentro and produced by the Cuban Ricardo Acosta.
The following year he acted in the Puerto Rican telenovela Tormento, with the role of César Augusto Caballero, along with Chayanne and under the direction of the Venezuelan Román Chalbaud. In 1988 he played the role of Arnaldo Vásquez in the telenovela La otra, along with Claribel Medina and Giselle Blondet, directed by Martin Lutrec. In 1989, he acted in the miniseries La conciencia de Lucía that deals with the story of a plastic surgeon named Alberto who is married to Lucía, played by Giselle Blondet. Upon her return to Colombia she acted in the telenovela R.T.I. called LP loca pasión, in which he personified Julio Sanmiguel or "Sammy", a young man who sought to have the door of popularity as a rock musician in Spanish who during the course of of the telenovela finds that opportunity elusive. 1990s
In 1990, he separated from Margarita Rosa de Francisco and met Herlinda Gómez, who was to be his second wife and mother of his two children. That same year he made a telenovela in Puerto Rico called Aventurera where his leading role was that of Juan Carlos Santander, a Colombian in Puerto Rico who develops successful businesses and is a millionaire, cynical, bohemian and irreverent. to scandalize all the characters around him. Sully Díaz was the Adventurera, a wife sacrificed by the Santander family, who oppressed her until, thanks to her attention and the weakening of her husband's family, she managed to win back her beloved and get a great fortune. The actor Osvaldo Ríos was also in the cast, while the direction was in charge of Dim Sallas. The telenovela was broadcast on channel 4 of San Juan and WAPA-TV. The following year he returned to Colombia to make a television musical on Caracol Televisión, about the life and work of the famous vallenato composer Rafael Escalona. In the series, titled Escalona , he shared the cast with Florina Lemaitre, Rodrigo Obregón, Judy Henríquez, Juan Carlos Arango and Álvaro Araújo Castro, under the direction of Sergio Cabrera. That same year, once again in Puerto Rico, he made an American and Italian-Dominican telenovela produced in Puerto Rico and Miami (United States) for the American Spanish-language network Telemundo, called Cadena braga. His role was the character of José Antonio. Here it was a subject who was obsessed with being a fair, rational and balanced man. He was measured, serene and knew how to jump over the pitfalls in his path. He shared credits with the actresses Carmen Carrasco and Mara Croatto, with the production of Alfonso Rodríguez.
Later, in 1992, he made the second part of his first album Escalona: a song to life, called Escalona ''Volume 2' '. In that same year, he played the journalist José Antonio Samper Pupo in the Colombian film La estrategia del snail, which was shown on December 25 of that same year until mid-1993, with a cast that included Fausto Cabrera, Frank Ramírez, Florina Lemaitre, Víctor Mallarino, Humberto Dorado, Delfina Guido, Vicky Hernández, Luis Fernando Múnera, Gustavo Angarita and Salvo Basile. Also that same year, she made her last performance in the telenovela La Mujer Doble together with the Venezuelan actress Ruddy Rodríguez. That same year he did a night show on television called La Tele. In 1995, Vives published the album La tierra del olvido in the company of his band La Provincia, produced by Richard Blair and recorded in Bogotá. This album was the sixth record work of the Colombian singer and his second with Sonolux. The album was a massive success and includes the now classics "La tierra del olvido" and "Pa' Mayté", as well as new versions of traditional themes such as "Rosa" and "The crowned goddess". In 2001 he made the album Déjame entrar, produced in Miami, Florida by Emilio Estefan, Jr. and co-produced by Sebastián Krys, Andrés Castro and the artist himself, thus winning a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Tropical Latin Album on February 27, 2002 and three Latin Grammys for Best Contemporary Tropical Album on September 18, 2002. The most successful songs were Déjame entrar, "Amor latino&# 34;, "New Moon" and "I want to see you smile".
In his 2004 album called El rock de mi pueblo, Vives includes electric guitars, basses and rock drums in his interpretation of vallenato and traditional rhythms, an innovative fusion, which in turn claimed popular lyrics. All this and more led the album El rock de mi pueblo to the sixth installment of the Latin Grammy Awards. The musical work was the winner of the Best Contemporary Tropical Album award. The song Como tú was also nominated for Best Tropical Song on November 3, 2005.
Carlos Vives also gave space to children's music. He took Rafael Pombo's poems to the musical level, achieving great alliances and sales that led him with Pombo Musical , to the Latin Grammy Awards in 2009, winning in the Contemporary Album category for Best Children's Album.
Between 2009 and 2010 he returned to his roots and presented a masterpiece with Clásicos De La Provincia II in alliance with Almacenes Éxito, the most important supermarket chain in Colombia, accumulating 15 platinum records for more than 200 thousand copies sold.
To all these recognitions are added the prizes awarded by Shock Magazine, the most important publication in Colombia specialized in music.
Vives has been an artist committed to children and society, he was a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, participated in the Paz Sin Fronteras concert, and was invited to the 2012 United States Army Continuing Promise Mission. In 2012 Carlos Vives begins a new era, television and music are the perfect combination for Samario, who, like the great idols of the world, manages to reinvent himself based on his quality, experience and visionary spirit. 2013–2015: Deep Heart and its Rebirth

Carlos Vives received the Order of Arts and Letters from the French government in 2014 and was honored with the BMI President's Award for Latin Music for his compositions in 2013. Also recently at the Viña del Mar Festival he obtained all prizes; gold and silver torches, plus gold and silver seagulls for his masterful spectacle in February of this year.
In mid-2014, Carlos Vives released Más corazón profundo and repeated the feat of his previous album, this time with even greater force by breaking records in physical and digital sales in Colombia. In 2015 he collaborated with Soledad Pastorutti on the song "Give me a smile" and also with Wisin with Daddy Yankee on the song "Nota de Amor" which has come to be placed on some popularity lists such as Monitor Latino in Colombia. On July 28, 2017, he presents Robarte un beso, together with Yatra, reaching the top positions in the world charts and exceeding one billion views on his VEVO channel on YouTube.
