Carlos Tartiere
Carlos Tartiere y Alas-Pumariño (Lugones, 1900-Gijón, July 31, 1950) was a businessman and president of Real Oviedo.
Biography
The son of José Tartiere and María de los Dolores de las Alas-Pumariño, he was born in the Asturian town of Lugones in 1900. His father was the promoter of the foundation of the Real Club Deportivo Oviedo, but Carlos Tartiere was a fan of the Real Stadium Club Ovetense and promoted the merger of both teams on March 26, 1926, giving rise to the creation of the Oviedo Football Club and being named the first president of the new entity. During his tenure, the club would be renamed Real Oviedo Football Club, Oviedo F.C. and, finally, Real Oviedo.
He was president of Real Oviedo until his death in 1950. Under his presidency some of the greatest successes in the club's history were achieved, such as two third positions in the First Division in the 1934/35 and 1935/36 seasons.
In his memory, the old Buenavista stadium was renamed Estadio Municipal Carlos Tartiere, a name that would be maintained in the new stadium (Estadio Municipal Carlos Tartiere).
