Cancun International Airport
The Cancun International Airport (IATA Code: CUN - ICAO Code: MMUN - DGAC Code: CUN) is located 16 kilometers from the city of Cancun, on the Caribbean coast of the State of Quintana Roo. It is the second busiest airport in Mexico, only after the International Airport of Mexico City, but the most important in Mexico and Latin America by international passengers. It is one of the best connected airports in all of Latin America due to the number of routes and airlines that operate.
The airport was remodeled and expanded to become the 2nd busiest airport in the country and the one that serves the most international passengers in the country. It has two operational runways more than 1,500 m apart, which allows them to be used simultaneously, and three commercial terminals. Terminal 1 stopped operating since March 2018 and is only used for some charter flights, Terminal 2 is used by some international airlines, as well as all national airlines, Terminal 3 handles most international operations of airlines from North America and Europe and the recent Terminal 4 receives the flights of 2 national and 11 international airlines.
The airport is operated by ASUR as well as the airports of Cozumel, Mérida, Veracruz, Villahermosa, Oaxaca, among others. The airport was a hub for Aerocancun, Aladia, Mexicana and MexicanaLink.
ASUR announced the expansion of Terminal 2, which was completed in 2014, and Terminal 3, which was also expanded but after Terminal 2 was completed. ASUR also announced the construction of a hotel within the airport.
On June 1, 2013, the Mexico Airport Authority announced that the current Terminal 4 would be built in Cancun. The new project has 20 additional gates to the 68 gates of the airport.
On November 27, 2013, it became the first airport in Mexico to receive the Airbus A380, as part of the celebration of Air France's 80th anniversary and ASUR's 15th anniversary.
As of 2022, with 30,342,961 passengers, it is the second busiest airport in Mexico.
