Calvin Klein (designer)

Calvin Richard Klein (New York, November 19, 1942) is an American fashion designer; He co-founded, along with Barry K. Schwartz, the company Calvin Klein Ltd. in 1968.

Biography

He was raised in an immigrant community of Hungarian Jews and graduated from New York's Fashion Institute of Technology in 1962.

In 1968 he worked and gained experience in New York, selling coats on Seventh Avenue and revolutionized fashion in the 1990s with his minimalist creations free of superfluous ornaments, which represents the modern man and woman.

Calvin Klein Incorporated

In 1968 he created his own firm called Calvin Klein Limited. In 1993 he was the winner of the Council of Fashion Designers of America Award for his men's and women's collections. His first campaign was with Brooke Shields, who wore his jeans with the phrase "nothing comes between me and my Calvin Jeans."

Klein's success within the fashion industry was the launch of his first line of jeans in the 70s.

The Calvin Klein company is known for its eye-catching advertisements and has been accused by several conservative organizations^{[which one?]} for using apparently underage models in semi-provocative poses.

In addition to clothing, Klein gave his name to a line of perfumes, including the unisex fragrances "CK One" and 'CK Be', both of which are now owned by Unilever. Like his fashion, Calvin's perfumes express the basic elements of the spirit.

Private life

He has had two marriages: his first wife was Jayne Centre, a fellow student, to whom he was married from 1964 to 1974; His second wife was the socialite Kelly Rector, with whom he was married between 1986 and 2006. He has a daughter from his marriage to Jayne Center named Marci Klein, who has been a producer of the NBC shows, Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock.

In 2010, she attended several social events in New York and the Hamptons in the company of her boyfriend, Nick Gruber. The relationship lasted until January 2012, but they reunited three months later, when Gruber was arrested for carrying cocaine. On that occasion, Klein supported him with rehabilitation treatment.
