History
Until now, no reliable data has been found on the Spanish foundation of Calca; existing at that time under the name of "Villa de Zamora"; however, it should be noted that in a series of official writings and documents of the colony, the name of "Villa de Zamora" appears; so it is presumed that this comes from a Spanish ancestor typical of a currently existing city, also with the name of "Zamora", in the Province of Castilla y León, on the Iberian Peninsula; probably attributed to the conquistador Don Pedro de Zamora; the foundation of it. The first female councilor in the province of Calca was Leonor Paz de Velazco in 1980, the first mayor held by popular vote in 1965 was the journalist and Rrp correspondent Mr. Luis Beltrán Allende Villafuerte, who was elected at 23 years of age, being the youngest authority of his time.
Its territory included the old Corregimiento of Calca y Lares. Some judges were:
- Pedro de Oña
- Juan del Marmol (1706)
- Gabriel de Urtarán Pérez de Ugarte
- Francisco Antonio de Echave y Villela
- Domingo Vicente Guisla and Lorenzo, Knight of the Order of Calatrava (1731)
- Juan Roque de Ahumada (1738)
- Antonio de la Cámara (1768)
- Pablo de Figueroa and Portocarrero (1772)
- Diego de Olano (1776)
- Pedro Centeno (1780)
The Province of Calca was created by virtue of the decree issued by the Liberator Simón Bolívar on June 21, 1825. The Capital at that time was "Villa de Zamora".
