The term buffer', can refer to:

  • In computer science, data buffer is a space on a disk or on a digital instrument reserved for temporary storage of digital information, while it is waiting to be processed. For example, a TRF analyzer will have one or more buffers of entry, where the digital words that represent the samples of the input signal are saved. The Z-Buffer is used for rendering 3D images.
  • In electronics, one buffer amplifier is a device that connects impedances to a circuit. In its simplest form is a complement working as a follower. The voltage and current therefore do not decrease in the circuit, as it takes the voltage of the power supply of the operational and not the signal being introduced, so if a signal arrived with little current, the follower circuit would compensate for that loss with the power source of the operational amplifier, either this unipolar or bipolar.
  • In neurophysiology a rehearsal buffer, a special section of short-term memory
  • In the field of Geographic Information Systems, buffer or area of influence is the polygon that encloses the domain area resulting from giving a certain distance around a geographical object. It is frequently used for spatial analysis processes.
  • A buffer or chemical tampon, in chemical terms, is a system consisting of a weak acid and its conjugated base, or by a base and its conjugated acid that has tamponant capacity, that is, it can oppose large changes of pH (in a concrete margin) in a watery dissolution.
  • In the Blind Speedcubing, all methods have a buffer location, this has the function of directing each piece to its respective place just by passing through it.
  • Buffer is a Punk Rock band from the city of Baradero
