Buenaventura Courier

Buenaventura Correoso (July 14, 1831 - January 12, 1911) was a Panamanian soldier and educator. He fought in 1860 against Santiago de la Guardia in the battle of Río Chico. In 1868 he took power through a revolutionary coup that took place against the administrative corruption of the oligarchy. He reformed the Constitution of the Federal State of Panama, the National Codes and promulgated the first tax legislation in Panama. He faced other uprisings, and in 1885 he fought with Rafael Aizpuru against the American occupation requested by Rafael Núñez.
