In Greek mythology, Brontes (in Greek Βροντης, 'the one who thunders') together with Esteropes and Arges formed the first generation of Cyclopes, sons of Uranus and Gaia. They were giants with one eye in the middle of their foreheads and horrible temperaments, known as good craftsmen and builders.

According to Hesiod they were strong, stubborn, and of "abrupt emotions". Their names became synonymous with strength and power, and were used to refer to especially well-made weapons.
