Braille device
The braille device (electronic) refers to any electronic device used to interpret or generate the braille system, both physically and virtually.
We can distinguish between the following devices:
- Braille lines.
- Braille keyboards.
- Braille prints.
Braille displays are usually used as external peripherals on a computer or PDA. They can also be embedded in another device. For example, a braille printer can incorporate a braille line for use by people with visual disabilities.
Braille display
A Braille display is a Braille device that is based on an electro-mechanical mechanism capable of representing Braille characters by raising dots through a flat surface with holes made for that purpose.
Due to the complexity and high cost of these devices, they usually only have 20, 40 or 80 cells. They also usually have buttons to scroll the text and stop perform other special functions. In some models the position of the cursor is represented by the vibration of the points and in many of them there is a button for each cell to take the cursor to that associated position.
