Borinda

Borinda is a genus of herbaceous plants of the Poaceae family. It is native to eastern Asia, spreading through Tibet, Nepal, Sikkim, and Bhutan. It comprises 24 described species and of these, only 3 pending to be accepted.

Description

They are perennial plants. Green leafy flower stalks. woody and persistent culms; branched above. Disarmed plants. Leaves with auricular hairs, or without auricular setae. Blade broad or narrow, 6-25 mm wide; pseudopetiolate; parallel veining; pods disarticulated. Contra-ligula present or absent. Bisexual plants, with bisexual spikelets; with hermaphrodite flowers. Hermaphrodite spikelets. The paniculate inflorescence.

Taxonomy

The genus was described by Christopher Mark Adrian Stapleton and published in the Edinburgh Journal of Botany 51(2): 284. 1994. The type species is: Borinda macclureana (Bor) Stapleton.
