Boeotia (Greek Βοιωτία, Viotia) is a peripheral unit of Greece, on the periphery of Central Greece. Its capital is Livadia and the second largest city is Thebes. The bordering peripheral units are Fócida in the west, Phthiotide in the north and northwest, Euboea to the east (separated by a bay and a gulf) and the periphery of Attica to the south. Until January 1, 2011, it was one of the 51 prefectures into which the country was divided.
