Boa
Bôa is a rock band formed in London in 1993 by Ed Herten (drums), Paul Turrell (keyboards) and Jasmine Rodgers (guitars and lead vocals).
History
Alex Caird, who had played with Ed in another band called Draggin' Bones, was called to play bass. Steve's younger sister, Jasmine Rodgers, was invited to sing in a chorus part on one of his early songs "Fran", she would later become the lead singer. Ben Henderson, who had played with Alex in the band 'Doctor Sky', was soon after hired to play sax.
Their first performance was in January 1994 at the London Forum as the opening act for Paul Rodgers, father of Steve and Jasmine. In the summer of that same year, Ed Herten decided to leave the band to concentrate on his studies, so they looked for another drummer, Lee Sullivan. He gave the group more of a rock groove which was the next step to complement the funk groove they already had and swapped out sax for guitars with Ben Henderson.
Bôa honed their performances throughout the south of England and in 1996, they agreed to sign with a Japanese record label, Polystar. Although the album was recorded and produced in England, Jasmine and Steve traveled to Japan in 1998 to promote their debut album 'Race of a Thousand Camels', which was only released in that country.
Their first single, "Duvet", was used as the theme song for a new anime series called "Serial Experiments Lain".
In 2000, Ben Henderson left the band to focus on his own band, Moth, with his wife, singer/songwriter Tina. Then, Bôa signed with Geneon (ex-Pioneer), Lain's distributors in the USA, they performed a live concert at the Otakon convention in the same year, being well received.
In 2001, Bôa released her US debut album "Twilight", under the Pioneer label. But that same year they had another casualty: Paul Turrell left the band for his own interests.
The band began recording their third album in 2003 but was released until 2005, "Get There".
