Blogroll
A blogroll is a collection of 'blog' links, usually presented in a side column of a web page.
Authors of blogs can define different and varied criteria to include other blogs in their blogrolls. Usually, the list of other blogs addresses is made up of addresses that the authors themselves visit regularly or sometimes simply blogs pages of friends or relatives.
From a purely intuitive point of view blogroll can be an acronym resulting from two words of origin blog and roll (or list); being understood as "roll or list of blog".
Blogrolls were around long before anyone decided to give them a nickname or name, and the earliest known blogrolls date back to 1997, by blogging pioneer Chris Gulker.
Regarding the origin of this word, there are two possible derivations:[citation required]
- the bloggers of the United States maintains that the term comes from I got it.which is related to the exchange of information among different people to achieve a common objective;
- the bloggers of the United Kingdom blogroll with bog roll (hygienic paper), based on the long list of addresses and the dubious quality of many blogrolls.
Thanks to formats like OPML, the author of a blog can allow visitors to add their entire blogroll.
