The bisexual pride flag was designed by Michael Page to represent the bisexual community. It first appeared during the first anniversary of “BiCafe” on November 5, 1998.

History of the flag

Overlay triangles

Michael Page wanted to give the bisexual community its own symbol, just as the rainbow flag served as a symbol for the entire gay community, to increase the visibility of the bisexual community within the gay and straight communities.

The other symbols in use at the time, such as the overlapping pink and blue triangles, did not serve as flags or were registered trademarks.

Flag design

It is made up of three horizontal stripes, two stripes of two fifths of the pod on the upper and lower edges and one of a fifth of the pod in the central part.

The aspect ratio is not fixed, although 3:2 or 5:3 is generally used.

Colors

  • Magenta Strip: Represents the attraction to your own genre.
  • Blue strip: Represents the attraction to the opposite gender/
  • Lavender Strip: Represents bisexuality in general.
