Biscarrués is a municipality located in the region of Hoya de Huesca, in the province of Huesca, Spain.

Geography

It is located in the valley of the Gállego river, to the north of the Gallego dam.

Composed of four urban centers: Biscarrués, Erés, Piedramorrera and the Gallego Dam.

It limits to the north with Ayerbe and Santa Eulalia de Gállego, to the south with Lupiñén, to the east with Ayerbe and Lupiñen and to the west with Ardisa.

History

First mention: in 1083 is quoted "Sancta Maria de Biscarruesse".
In April 1194 Don Pedro Puyó and his brothers gave to populate the term they possessed in Santa María de Biscarrués.
On August 18, 1381 King John I of Aragon sold Biscarrués to the monastery of Montearagón.
In 1495 he had 23 fires.
In 1610 he belonged to the Lord of Yesterdaybe.
In 1713 he had only 22 neighbors.
On December 12, 1930 Fermín Galán surrendered to the mayor of the town, thus ending the uprising of Jaca.
In 2020 the Supreme Court forbids the construction of a swamp in the locality.

Monuments

Religious monuments

Parish Church dedicated to the Assumption of the CenturyXVIII. The tower, of the centuryXIIIt's the only thing left of the old building on which the current building is built. During Holy Week a spectacular monument of the century is mounted insideXVIII, formed by 22 canvases.

Chapel of Santa Quiteria, rebuilt in 1748.
Term cruises. Cross of the Balsa Fountain and Cross both of the centuryXVI and recently restored. The last one is decorated with bas-reliefs of San Pelayo's life.

Civil monuments

Source of battery under an open arch on a wall of chairs, of the centuryXVI or centuryXVII.
Washing machine dated in 1888.
Eugenio vault, stone cassette covered with a dome. There is currently a replica of this cassette in the Pirenarium de Sabiñánigo park.
