Bellardiochloa is a genus of herbaceous plants belonging to the Poaceae family. It is native to southern Europe and western Asia.

Taxonomy

The genus was described by Emilio Chiovenda and published in Stud. Veg. Piemonte 60. 1929. The type species is: Bellardiochloa violacea (Bellardi) Chiov.

Etymology

Bellardiochloa: Generic name given in honor of Piedmont botanist Carlo Antonio Lodovico Bellardi.

Cytology

The basic chromosome number of the genus is x = 7, with somatic chromosome numbers of 2n = 14. 2 ploidy. Relatively "large" chromosomes.
