The Belize flag was adopted on September 21, 1981, after gaining independence from the United Kingdom. It is made up of a blue cloth marked by two red stripes at the upper ends and in the center a white disc on which the Belizean coat of arms is written.

The color blue represents the United People's Party. The red stripes, the opposition party (United Democratic Party) and the fifty leaves, the rise to power of the PUP.

This flag dates back to 1950 when the territory of British Honduras, in its process of independence, adopted a flag very similar to the current one, but lacking the red stripes.
