Batman province
The Batman Province is a Turkish province in southeastern Anatolia.
It got its name from the Batman River, which irrigates this region. The province of Batman is important due to its oil reserves. The first refinery was founded in 1955. An oil pipeline stretches 494 kilometers from Batman to the city of Alexandretta. The main agricultural product of the region is cotton. A railway connects Batman with the provinces of Diyarbakır and Elazığ.
The province of Batman is made up of the districts of: Batman, Beşiri, Gercüş, Hasankeyf, Kozluk and Sason. The provincial capital is also called Batman, and has a population of 147,347 inhabitants. This area is mainly inhabited by Kurds.
The province also has sites of archaeological interest, such as the dervish monastery of Imam Abdullah and the Camiü‘r Rızk and Hasankeyf bridge.
