Barriss Offee
Barriss Offee is a fictional character in the Star Wars universe. Her first appearance was in the novel The Approaching Storm.
Overview
Barriss Offee was the padawan of Master Luminara Unduli who participated in the Mission to Ansion and the Battle of Geonosis, later during the Clone Wars, Dooku commanded sixty chameleon droids to destroy the Illum Jedi temple where the lightsaber crystals are located and there Barriss and her teacher fought to protect the temple, but there were too many and the temple was destroyed. They are eventually rescued by Master Yoda. She becomes a Jedi Knight at the conclusion of a mission on the planet Drongar, after specializing in the use of the Force for healing and using surgical devices with the Force at the same time. She is then sent to Felucia with a group of Jedi healers to heal the battle wounded and there she is killed by clones of her along with Aayla Secura when Order 66 is activated by order of Emperor Palpatine.
Biography
Early Age
As is normal for the Jedi, Barriss was taken when she was still very young to the Jedi temple to be trained as such. Since she was little, she showed a very impulsive temperament that was seen with good eyes by the most conservative teachers of the Order. She was always of a very reserved nature and not easily intimidated, although she sometimes preferred using her lightsaber to resolving conflicts diplomatically. In addition to her attempts to compensate for her exotic nature and physique caused her to often behave coldly towards others. Barriss was assigned to the powerful teacher Luminara Unduli. Together with her he was present in many official acts, such as interviews with the Supreme Chancellor, or in numerous battles, such as the battle of Geonosis.
Before the Battle of Geonosis
Shortly before the battle of Geonosis, Offee along with her Master and in the company of Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan, Ánakin Skywalker, were sent to Ansion to prevent that planet from joining the CSI forces. Joining his forces was not important in itself, the problem was that if Ansion decided to join the CSI, many other worlds would follow.
Upon arrival, they spoke with the planet's Community Union, who made it a condition of fulfilling their terms that the Jedis resolve an existing conflict between the city's inhabitants and the natives, called the Alwari. The Jedi set out in search of the Alwari, but Offee was captured by two natives. However, they fell ill and Barriss cured them, earning her trust and freeing her, even acting as guides for the Jedis.
By chance the Jedi came across the Alwari tribe of the Yiwa, whose chief, Mazong, initially distrusted the Jedi and had them display their acrobatic skills for him. Once the four Jedi were done with his demonstrations.
After being captured by another group of natives and rescued, the Jedi finally found the Borokii clan. They explained the agreement they were trying to reach and the head of the clan, but not before having to settle a conflict between clans, accepted. Back in the city, the Union agreed to the terms expressed by the Jedi and the planet of Ansion remained Republic property, making the mission a great success.
Clone Wars (22 BBY - 19 BBY)
Battle of Geonosis
Once back on Coruscant, Barriss was dispatched with the large Jedi force led by Master Mace Windu heading to Geonosis to rescue Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ánakin Skywalker, and Padme Amidala. During the battle in the Geonosis arena, she and Pablo-Jill discovered a place to exit the stadium and therefore was not picked up by Yoda's defensive perimeter created around the survivors.
In Illum
Later, during the Clone Wars, Barriss Offee and her teacher Luminara Unduli ventured to the frozen world of Illum. On this barren planet are the crystals that the Jedi use in the construction of their lightsabers. In a secret temple located in the vicinity of the crystal caves, Offee built a new lightsaber with a crystal of his choosing. During the construction of his new weapon, the location of the temple is compromised. Separatist chameleon droids infiltrated the mines and planted explosive charges in the tunnels. Offee and Unduli fought to defend the temple, but were trapped inside the cave. This generated a disturbance in the Force, which was detected by Yoda, who soon arrived to rescue them.
Second Battle of Geonosis
Offee and her master were sent to Geonosis to help Jedi General Ánakin Skywalker and his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, destroy the weapons factory, led by Poggle the Lesser. Tano and Offee were sent to the catacombs, while Skywalker and Unduli acted as decoys. The Padawans reached their destination, but were spotted by the Geonosians and attacked by the Separatist Army's new super tank, as well as the Geonosians, and the bombs they had planted were defused. Barriss manages to cut a hole through the top of the tank with her lightsaber and enters as the droids leading it flee. Ahsoka came to the conclusion that the only way to destroy the factory would be to use the tank's guns to fire on the reactor, even though he believes they are unlikely to survive the explosion.
When the factory was destroyed, the tank was buried under a large amount of rubble. However, both Padawans survived the explosion. Ahsoka used a power cell that was in the tank, and tried to activate his comlink. Skywalker picked up the signal, and he and Luminara keep track of its location. They eventually use telekinesis to remove the rubble and free their Padawans.
Brain Worms
Offee and Tano were transported on a supply ship to the Ord Cestus medical station. The Padawans decided to rest a bit, but after a while, they both went to the dining room. Unbeknownst to them, a clone trooper was spreading the worms' eggs throughout the ship. While Tano and Offee were eating, two clones tried to kill them, but both apprentices managed to incapacitate them. Later, while Ahsoka and Barriss were inspecting the Trap ship she tried to infect Barriss, who was forced to kill him to defend herself.
After discovering that all the clones on the ship were being controlled by the brain worms, Offee and Tano parted ways. Barriss was on his way to the engineering section to disable the ships' engines when he walked into a trap set by the clones. She was unable to prevent the clones from infecting her with a brain worm and soon succumbed to the parasite's influence. When she met Ahsoka, the two dueled. Tano tried to convince Offee to resist being controlled, and it is unknown how Offee continued the attack. After Ahsoka blasted her with a blast of freezing air, Barriss was able to regain enough control to implore Ahsoka to kill her, to ensure the worm's death, but Ahsoka refused. When the worm tried to flee Barriss's body and enter Ahsoka directly, the young Togruta sliced the worm in half with her lightsaber, freeing Barris from the parasite's mind control.
Battle of Umbara
Commander Offee, with the assistance of Commander Ahsoka Tano, managed to land through the blockade on the planet Umbara, giving the clone forces and Jedi present on the planet an attempt to capture it. Offee piloted a Delta-7B light interceptor to complete this task.
Coruscant Uprising
During the invasion of Coruscant Offee led a force of clone troopers into battle, and the lower levels of Coruscant were ambushed by the CIS, including new super battle droids with cortosis armor, which they were resistant to his lightsaber. However, a young man, Ánakin Skywalker, appeared at the opportune moment to repel the Separatist forces.
Mission to Drongar
She would later be sent to Drongar on her first mission in her master's absence, in the role of healer. On this planet a plant called boot was cultivated. Said plant was only cultivable on this planet and needed to be processed very quickly or it died quickly. However, it was almost miraculous, since it had different effects for each species, effects that could be curative or hallucinogenic. Unbeknownst to her, senior officials of the Republic forces were smuggling the plant for significant profit.
He would eventually inject himself with a boot dose by accident, realizing its effects could open the way to new powers in the Force. But Barriss managed to resist, knowing that if she continued down this path, he could succumb to the dark side. After this he realized that he had finally become a true Jedi Knight and commander.
Death
One of the deleted scenes from Episode III shows Barris being bombed and crushed by an AT-TE on the planet of Felucia, however this scene is not part of the continuity and Barris's whereabouts are currently unknown after 8:00 p.m. Clone Wars.
Powers and abilities
Light Saber Combat
Barriss Offee, specialized in lightsaber combat in tandem, and also practiced form III lightsaber combat, Soresu. In this form of combat she was perfectly synchronized with her Master, Luminara Unduli, due to her connection to the Force, making them both deadly weapons in combat when together.
Floating Meditation and Healing Powers, Connection to the Force
She was a practitioner of the floating meditation taught to her by her Master and had powers of Force healing, earning her the title of Jedi healer. She also knew how to use telekinesis to a great extent.
Personality
Barriss was a thoughtful and observant person. She was reserved and not easily intimidated. As a Padawan, she was impulsive and sometimes preferred to use her lightsaber negotiations over diplomacy.
She was also generous and willing to sacrifice her life to save others. This was proven when she and Ahsoka Tano were entombed under the rubble of a droid factory at the Second Battle of Geonosis, luckily they both survived.
Barriss was very loyal to her Master, Luminara Unduli, and was almost always by her side.
She was also known for having an unusual view of the Force, as she believed that the Light Side and the Dark Side were just words and that the Force was neither good nor evil, while most Jedi believed that the Light Side symbolized good and the Dark Side represented evil. This showed that she was wise beyond her age.
Behind the scenes
Representation
Offee was played by Nalini Krishan in the movies. Tatiana Yassukovich was the voice of her in the cartoon Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Meredith Salenger in the TV series « Star Wars: The Clone Wars ». Offee was introduced in the novel The Approaching Storm, written by Alan Dear Foster, which was a kind of preview for "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones", released several months later. The Ansion feud from the novel was mentioned in "Episode II", with Offee having a cameo appearance in Chancellor Palpatine's office and at the Battle of Geonosis.
Continuity
Offee was originally going to be in the "Order 66" sequence, but was removed along with the deaths of Luminara Unduli and Shaak Ti. Unused footage from "Attack of the Clones" was going to be used for her appearance.
"The New Essential Guide to Characters" as well as "The Approaching Storm" identify Offee as human. Although not specified, this is not a continuity error, as Myrialans are near-human and therefore part of the human species.
In "Attack of the Clones: The Visual Dictionary", it is established that Barriss Offee's tattoos are Chalactan in nature. In the "MedStar Duology", however, this fact has been corrected. Officially, Offee's tattoos are traditionally mirialan.

Mistakes in his death
According to the death written above, Offee died on Felucia during Order 66. But according to the series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" the fate of Barris was as follows:
An attack on the Jedi temple was committed and the knight Jedi Ánakin Skywalker with his padawan Ahsoka Tano, were sent to investigate. At the crime scene, they find that the attack could have been caused by the guard Manil Jacar. They check on security videos but they don't find anything there. Later, they leave the Temple for a few seconds and find themselves with a raging crowd of relatives and friends of the people who died in that attack. Among them is Leta Tormont, the wife of Manil Jacar. Skiwalker and Tano interviewed Leta, who assured them that Jacar could not have done it: “Being a guard in his Temple was his dream! He passed all his insipid tests!"Then Leta goes and the droid that helped investigate Skywalker and Tano, finds the remains of Jacar's hand. He was apparently placed by Nano Droids which had made him a bomb man. Ahsoka and Anakin go to Jacar and Leta's house just to find out that Tormont had put those Nanodroides in their food (Jacar's). They arrested Leta who was going to stop a prison in the Republic because in the attack, some clones had been killed. Padawan Tano is deconformed about this. Then, when Master Yoda is saying goodbye to the Jedis killed in the Ahsoka attack and Barriss are found. They come out of there together and start talking, but Ahsoka gets the call from her teacher telling her they want to interrogate Leta but she just wants to talk to Padawan Tano. Ahsoka goes to the Latvian cell, which confesses to her that someone forced her to put the Nanodroids in Jacar's food and tells her that if she swears to protect her, Leta will tell her who she was. When the same is about to reveal Barriss, it strangles her with force but no one sees her. Tano is imprisoned but Ofee helps escape. Ahsoka goes to the lower levels of Curuskant and there he meets Ventres who wants to kill her but after talking for a while and making a few promises, Tano and Asajj start working together to help clean the name of Ahsoka. Barriss guides them both to a cellar that supposedly has the necessary information to make the name of Ahsoka clean and their innocence proven. Ventres goes from there and outside is attacked by a mysterious person who steals his helmet and sables of light. The only thing that Ahsoka finds in that cellar is Nanodroides and the Jedis who were looking for her catch. This Success made her look even more guilty. Ahsoka's trial is approaching and this is expelled from the Jedi order. Her teacher Anakin Skiwalker is willing to prove that her padawan is innocent while Senator Amidala helps Ahsoka with her trial. Anakin goes with Ventres who tells her the culprit could have been Bariss.
Skywalker goes to the mirialana room in the Temple and faces it, noting that he has the Sables of Ventres. Ofee is finally captured by Anakin and brought before the court that is prosecuting Ahsoka. Barris confesses and tells the whole truth, while Ahsoka is amazed. Ofee is imprisoned and Tano has the opportunity to return to order but this one refuses. Saying that the order she belonged to gave her support. The only ones who trusted her were her teacher and Senator Amidala.
- It is not known whether this information is true because it was obtained from the Star Wars series: the Clone War.
- This information does not match the death written earlier (in Felucia, after order 66).
