Its foundation dates back to the repopulation carried out by the kings of León in the Middle Ages, being integrated into the bathroom of the jurisdiction of Salamanca, within the Kingdom of León. With the creation of the current provinces in 1833, Carrascal de Barregas was framed in the province of Salamanca, within the Leonese Region.

Geography

Integrated into the Campo de Salamanca region, the urban center is located 11 kilometers from the capital of Salamanca. The municipal area is crossed by the Autovía de Castilla A-62 between km 249 and 250, as well as by the road from Burgos to Portugal through Salamanca N-620, a conventional alternative to the previous one, and by the road from Salamanca to La Fregeneda CL -517, which heads towards Vitigudino from the provincial capital.

The relief of the municipality, which is scattered in five islets among the neighboring municipalities, is that of the region to which it belongs, predominantly flat with some elevations. The altitude oscillates between 940 meters near the Alto de los Montalvos, on the border with Aldeatejada, and 780 meters on the banks of a tributary stream of the Tormes, to the north. The town rises to 791 meters above sea level. Near the town center stands out the hill Cabezas de Barregas (835 m).

The limits of the territory in which the town hall and the district of Barregas are located are the following:

Northwest: Florida Liébana and Parada de Arriba North: Florida from Liébana Northeast: Villamayor

Population centers

Carrascal de Barregas is made up of 5 islands separated geographically by other territories of neighboring municipalities.

Annex is the nucleus of Barregas, a farm ceded by Inés Luna Terrero in the XX century. It is made up of few houses, of which only one or two families inhabit regularly, although several are the people who access daily to carry out the "work".

Cabrasmalas is another important rural nucleus. Only one family lives there permanently, but others maintain their agricultural-livestock activity there.

Other places of singular importance in the municipality include the farms of Calzadilla de la Valmuza, Torrecilla de Miranda and Porteros in the north-northwest area, and those of La Golpejera, Morales de Arriba y Abajo, Fraguas, Rodillo, Megrillán and the Hospital Martínez Anido in the southern area.

The social, labor, and demographic idiosyncrasies of Carrascal de Barregas began a substantial change during the 80s. At that time, a new municipality began to be designed, more modern, more residential, separated from the agrarian aspect, integrated into a more close to the capital in a virgin and immaculate environment and at the same time enormously attractive from an urban point of view. This is how Peñasolana began in Phase I and III, leaving Phase II for the 1990s. In 1978 the design of a partial plan began in which there were a series of plots for the construction of single-family chalets in accordance with what society demanded for so. It was not very successful according to the expectations created and it continued with attached chalets in Phase III, the famous "colorines". At the end of the nineties, verifying the reception of this type of housing, it continued with its expansion in Phase II of Peñasolana, so that in 1992 a cooperative of 28 chalets was created next to a concrete skeleton (which would be recognized in the future as the "El Rocío" area). At that time, the existing orchards on the right bank of the 620 national highway began to be removed to make way for the creation of an industrial model through warehouses that at no time took the urban design that the regulations required at that time. In this way, during the 1980s and 1990s, warehouses for various industrial and hospitality activities were built along the right side of the aforementioned road, but without any type of control. This is what has resulted over time in what is now called the Peñasolana Industrial Estate, already completed and located in an unbeatable area for industrial development, since it is only a few meters from the area destined for the dry port. The Peñasolana-Los Montalvos area is probably one of the areas in the suburbs of Salamanca that is best communicated in terms of the number of accesses to the capital, either by the Matilla de los Caños road, by the Tejares area or the entrance by the highway from the cemetery and other entrances of the entire ring road. Today the area of Peñasolana-Los Montalvos and Sanatorio Martínez Anido are part of the Metropolitan Transport Consortium.

At the same time, between 1990 and 1994, construction began in another distant area but belonging to the municipality, not in vain this is one of the largest in the province of Salamanca with an area of 77 km². This urbanization is called Oasis Golf and includes the entire residential area attached to the Zarapicos Golf course, which in 2006 was completed with the creation of the area called Villar de Zarapicos.

Around the year 2000, urban expansion continued in the famous “quesito” in the middle of the mountains today called the Santa Bárbara Urbanization and the part attached to Peñasolana defined in the urban regulations recently approved in 2008, as the Los Montalvos area and where more than 250 residents live today.

Demographics

Most of the population is concentrated in the Peñasolana Urbanization since it is the closest place to Salamanca. The second most populated nucleus is Carrascal de Barregas.
