Baal (or Ba'al) is a fictional character from the American television series Stargate SG-1, played by South African actor Cliff Simon. During season 8 he was one of the main antagonists of the series.

Origin

Baal is a Goa'uld based on the Baal of Middle Eastern mythology.

Personality

While exceptionally ruthless, Baal appears to be the one with the best understanding of human nature, more so than is typical for a Goa'uld, and also has a vague understanding of the concept of humor. His style tends more toward subtle insidiousness than outright cruelty.

History

Baal appears for the first time in season 5, in the double episode Summit/Last Stand, where he is introduced as one of the System Lords at that time. When Osiris appears on Anubis' behalf to petition the System Lords to accept him back—on the condition that Anubis will destroy the Tau'ri in return—Baal is one of those who supports the request.

Anubis subsequently failed in his attempts to destroy the Tau'ri and turned against the other lords of the system, demonstrating an impressive and powerful fleet, only matched by all the fleets of the other lords. of the system. When Lord Yu demonstrated his inability to lead the fleets, Baal assumed control and led the war against Anubis.

After Anubis' fleet was destroyed by the Ancients' weapon in Antarctica, Baal took control of the armies and technology formerly in Anubis' possession, including Asgard technology. And he started a war against the other System Lords. This caused the other Goa'uld to attempt a failed negotiation with the Tau'ri to request support in their fight against Baal.

Baal's advance against the Lords of the system was stopped by the Replicators, recently arrived in the galaxy. Baal's forces were occupied by ships infested with Replicators, and for the return of Anubis, who was presumed dead. During the events of the episode 'Reckoning', Baal is shown serving Anubis, presumably against his will. When the Ancients' weapon capable of destroying the entire galaxy is discovered, Baal secretly assists Samantha Carter and Jacob Carter in modifying the weapon, along with the Dakara Stargate Call Home System in order to destroy the replicants. of the galaxy.

Anubis does not welcome these actions, and claims the super-weapon for himself, to destroy the entire galaxy. Anubis allows Baal to live, so that he sees the end of all life in the galaxy. When Anubis' plan is sabotaged by Daniel Jackson and Oma Desala, Baal is the only surviving System Lord (the others having died in the fight with the replicants).

Later when Baal gains access to genetic replication technology, he produces several versions of himself, which settle on Earth. One of these clones is kidnapped and killed by the Jaffa, who are unaware of the existence of the others. At least one Baal is presumed to live outside Earth, possibly in the Archeba system.

However, the clones meet their end, almost at the end of season 10, when they are called to a supposed meeting to discuss the Adria matter and are killed along with their jaffas with symbiote poison by the Ba' to the real one.

Ba'al saw his death in the episode Dominion, since after capturing and getting into Adria's body, he is finally removed by the Tok'ra who heed the call of the Tau'ri, but not before releasing a deadly toxin into Adria's body.
