Awdal Region

Awdal is a region (gobolka) in northern Somalia. Its capital is Boorama. It borders Ethiopia, Djibouti, the Somali region of Woqooyi Galbeed and the Gulf of Aden. Awdal is one of the six regions of the self-proclaimed Republic of Somaliland and is the largest region in the country.

The region is relatively prosperous, in contrast to the rest of the Horn of Africa; due in part to the fact that the region was not affected as much in the Somali civil war.
