Attila Ilhan

Attila İlhan (June 15, 1925 – October 10, 2005) was a Turkish author and poet. Already in his youth, he had serious problems for having sent a poem by Nazım Hikmet, a famous Turkish poet and political dissident, to a girl with whom he was in love. This briefly interrupted his education. He later attended law school in Istanbul and published in several literary magazines. He lived in Paris, where he was influenced by the cultural current of the French capital. In recent times he has attended television programs where he intervened as a moderator on literary and social issues. He was the brother of the famous Turkish actress Çolpan İlhan. He was also an intellectual figure in Turkey where his nationalist ideas influenced the masses, always questioning the imitative intellectualism that dominated the cultural and political life of Turkey. He died of myocardial infarction in Istanbul on October 10, 2005 at the age of 80.
