Attard
Attard (Maltese: Ħ'Attard) is a local council located near the center of the island of Malta, with a population of approximately 10,000 inhabitants. Together with Balzan and Lija they form what is known as 'The Three Cities'. Attard became a parish in 1499.
Notable landmarks include: San Anton Botanical Gardens, National Stadium, National Park and "Crafts Village" in Ta' Qali. The official residence of the president is also located in Ħ'Attard.
Attard is the birthplace of architect Tumas Dingli, who is renowned for his work on the Wignacourt aqueducts, the 'Porta Reale', entrance to Valletta and several churches, of which only the de Attard, with its impressive façade, remains unchanged.
The Virgin Mary is the patron saint of Attard. The festival in her honor is celebrated on August 15, Malta's national holiday. The parish priest is Fr. Dione Cutajar.
