Athena, Athena main characters of the Saint Seiya series, a manga written by Masami Kurumada. It was later adapted into an anime and spawned three other manga spin-offs.

Athena is introduced by Masami Kurumada in the first chapter of her manga, Saint Seiya, as the Mythical Greek Goddess, and again in the third chapter of the first volume as Saori Kido (城戸沙織, kido saori), the director of the GRAAD Foundation. She depicted as an extremely beautiful young woman with long brown hair and a long white dress. She radiates elegance, wisdom, confidence, sincerity and serenity. She is under the protection of her dedicated saints and a bodyguard of hers in an anime adaptation. In the classic anime, she appears in the first episode, initially unaware of her divine nature. She also appears in several other related works, such as a sequel, five films, video games, and two manga by different authors. Saori is also a main character in the sequel to the original manga Next Dimension.

The Lost Canvas, written and drawn by Shiori Teshirogi, features the 18th century reincarnation of Athena named Sasha (サーシャ, sāsha), who is depicted as an orphan from a small town in Italy adopted by the Sanctuary, where her own biological brother Alone becomes the reincarnation of Hades, her mythological enemy, while the reincarnation of the century XVI also appears briefly, whom Teshirogi refers to as the former Athena (先代アテナ, sendai athena).

Biography

Like Saori, she is the director of the GRAAD Foundation and has been since the death of her grandfather Mitsumasa Kido. Before we came to know that she was Athena, the world's media considered her a successful businesswoman, interested in horseback riding and playing the piano. As a deity, she Athena has capabilities that surpass those of humans. She is a simple young woman, untrained for battle, but her cosmos is immense. As a being of compassion and love, she will endure pain and show unwavering courage and perseverance to protect the Earth and the living creatures on it.

Athena's attributes include Nike, the goddess of victory, depicted as a golden staff held in her right hand that can be used as a weapon (Athena uses it to kill Hades), and the shield Ægis, which It is impervious to any type of attack and eliminate all evil. She also possesses a powerful divine cloth, which is superior to all categories of cloth worn by knights (bronze, silver and gold). When Athena is not wearing it, her cloth transforms into the giant statue in her image that stands beyond Athena's Chamber, in the Sanctuary. To revive him, it is necessary to spill Athena's blood on him, as shown by Kurumada in the Hades arc. Athena has demonstrated great mastery of her cosmos. In both the manga and anime adaptations, several techniques have been revealed: healing auras, defensive shields, teleportation (in the conclusion of the Poseidon arc and Hades arc), Athena's seal (used in both Hades and Poseidon to seal them) and Misopethamenos, a divine gift given to Dohko of Libra that slows down his heartbeat and grants him great longevity. Athena's cosmos also awakens to the eighth sense; thus she is able to descend to the underworld without being subject to its laws.
