Rule of the Governor of Aruba

The flag of Aruba was officially adopted on March 18, 1976, after a contest in which more than 630 designs participated. It is composed of a blue background traversed by two parallel horizontal bands of yellow. At the upper end is a red four-pointed star with a white border.

Blue represents the skies and the Caribbean Sea, while yellow represents the union between Aruba and the Netherlands and the color of the wanglo, the national flower. The red star symbolizes the island pointing to the four cardinal points in the middle of the ocean. The red represents the land and the white the crash of the waves on the beaches. Also, the four points of the star identify the four languages of the island: Spanish, Papiamento, Dutch and English.

March 18 of each year is Flag Day in Aruba.
