Arthoniaceae

Arthoniaceae is a family of lichenized fungi in the order Arthoniales. They are formed by the association of an ascomycete fungus with a phytobiont. They present lyreline apothecia, without a taline edge or amphithecium and without their own edge or partathecium, thallus without cortex.

Arthoniaceae is the largest family of Arthoniales, with about 800 species. Most of the species in Arthoniaceae are found in Arthonia which is the largest genus with 500 species. The second and The third genus are Arthothelium with 80 species, and Cryptothecia with 60 species.
