Artemis
Artemis (アルテミス, Arutemisu?) is a character in the manga and anime series Sailor Moon. He is a white cat that has the ability to speak and always accompanies Minako Aino. In front of other people as well as Minako's own family, however, he pretends to be an ordinary cat. His fur is white with a yellow crescent-shaped mark on his forehead, and his eyes are either green or blue (depending on the adaptation of the story). This character appears for the first time in Act 1 of the manga Codename wa Sailor V, prequel to the Sailor Moon series. Later, in the plot of Sailor Moon, its initial presentation always occurs in the first season, in all versions of said sequel. In the manga and in Sailor Moon Crystal he appears from Act 8, while he does so from episode 33 in the first anime, and from Act 11 in the live-action series Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.
He is the one who gives Minako the news that her destiny is to become a Sailor Senshi, a warrior who fights for justice. At Artemis's urging, Minako temporarily adopts the alias of "Sailor V" as her battle name, later revealing her identity as the vigilante chosen to represent the planet Venus, Sailor Venus. Later, both Artemis and Sailor Venus join the vigilante group led by the protagonist, Sailor Moon. Like Luna (the cat that always accompanies Sailor Moon), Artemis the cat also comes from an ancient kingdom called the Silver Millennium. Therefore, both can speak, have human intelligence and other unusual abilities. He is the partner of Luna, with whom in the future Tokio de Cristal he has a daughter named Diana. In the manga and in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal he has the ability to take human form, in the same way as Luna and Diana.
In the original Japanese, the seiyu Yasuhiro Takato is the one who gives voice to this character in the first animated series, while his role is played by the actor Keiji Himeno, wearing a cat costume, in the first musical of Sailor Moon. In the live-action series, Artemis is represented by a stuffed white cat voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi. In Sailor Moon Crystal, he is voiced by voice actor Yohei Obayashi.
History
The Kingdom of the Moon
In almost all versions of the series, Artemis and his companion, Luna, are the sole survivors of the former Silver Millennium, also known as the Moon Kingdom, after this kingdom was devastated by the Dark Kingdom under the command of the evil queen Beryl. After the fall of the kingdom, Queen Serenity sends the souls of her daughter, Princess Serenity, and her four guardians, Sailor Venus, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, and Sailor Mercury, to reincarnate on the Earth of the future. Before dying, on the other hand, the queen puts Artemis and Luna in a state of suspended animation and also sends them to planet Earth, where they will awaken in the future of the 20th century.
The Present
Once awake, however, the two cats of the Lunar Kingdom discover that the villains who destroyed their former home have returned, and now once again threaten the world. The duty, then, is to find the reincarnated souls of the Moon Princess and her four guardians of her, so that together they can fight this evil group.
To achieve this, Artemis and Luna, separately, each go on a different mission. While Luna goes in search of the future Sailor Moon, Usagi Tsukino, Artemis becomes the loyal and unconditional companion by Minako Aino; whom he begins to train as & # 34; & # 34; Sailor V & # 34; and as the future Sailor Venus. In Codename wa Sailor V it is Artemis himself who reveals to Minako that she is the reincarnation of the goddess of beauty. He then shows Minako, for the first time, a vision of castle Magellan ; that belongs to her and that is in orbit around the planet Venus, the true home planet of Sailor Venus. In the last chapter of this prequel, however, once Minako and Artemis manage to defeat all the enemies of Sailor V (the villains of the Dark Agency), Minako manages to remember for herself her role as a Sailor Senshi, as well as her true mission; which is to find and protect the current reincarnation of Serenity, the Princess of the Moon. After this, both she and Artemis begin to prepare everything for their future meeting with Sailor Moon and the rest of the also reborn Sailor Senshi of the Solar System. Internal.
According to the manga version, at the beginning of the Codename wa Sailor V storyline, Artemis sets up a secret operations center, hidden in the basement of the arcade "Crown"; the same one where Motoki Furuhata works. This place, which appears in the manga and in Sailor Moon Crystal, as well as in the live-action series, is called the "Command Center" or "Secret Base" (Secret base, 秘密基地?). In the manga and in Crystal, this is a room that is only accessed through the Sailor V video game (which is also made by Artemis), and is filled with large computers that serve as to find and analyze information about the enemy. In contrast, in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon it is a cozier place, with more colorful decoration, home furnishings such as a sofa, table and chairs, and pictures of the Sailor Senshi on the walls; while the access door appears as if by magic whenever the protagonists need it.
Initially, Artemis seems to retain more memories of the Silver Millennium than Luna; since in the first season of Sailor Moon he and Minako are dedicated to guiding and instructing her and the other Sailor Senshi through the Sailor V video game, so anonymous. In the manga and Crystal it is explained that Luna and Artemis had decided to suppress part of Luna's memory, so that she could carry out her mission to train the real princess, Usagi, as a female Sailor Senshi warrior; while Minako, with the help of Artemis and under the guise of "Sailor V", acted as a decoy, in order to deceive the enemies.
In the first anime, on the other hand, Artemis communicates with Luna through the pseudonym "Central Control" o "Master Control" (Game Machine, ゲーム・マシン?); something he continues to do even after he and Luna have been reunited. When a technical problem accidentally reveals his identity to a surprised Luna, she is upset to learn that he has failed to tell her that he is the one who has been bossing her around all along. Luna's true duty; which is to always stay by the side of the princess (that is, Usagi).
Only in the manga version of Sailor Moon, it is revealed in the final season that both Luna and Artemis did not originate from the Solar System, but instead reached the Silver Millennium for the first time in ancient times. remote, from his home planet, Mau; the same one that Sailor Tin Nyanko comes from.
Profile
Artemis is the companion and adviser of Minako Aino, a reincarnation of one of the warriors who protected the Princess of the Moon. These warriors have protected Usagi, aka "Sailor Moon", since the remote times when she was Princess Serenity in the old Silver Millennium. They are the Sailor Senshi known as Sailor Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Sailor Venus. According to the manga, Minako aka Sailor Venus is the leader of these four; therefore, Artemis's mission is to guide and support the leader of the four guardians, above all else.
Unlike Luna, Artemis is a more flexible and less strict character. He doesn't seem to mind having the same name as a female goddess, Artemis; not even when that detail is the subject of jokes on Minako's part, her attitude towards her is frequently that of an "older brother"; although sometimes an occasional and inconsequential attraction of his towards her, due to Minako's status as a "goddess of beauty", is implicitly suggested. He also has great affection for Luna, who often comforts when sad or worried. On the other hand, he is a good father towards her future daughter Diana of hers, as evidenced by the affection she constantly shows him.
Artemis is very intelligent; Since, like Luna, he is able to use computers and other devices, obtain information about the villains, as well as manufacture combat weapons or devices to train the Sailor Senshi. In the Codename wa Sailor V manga, Artemis is the one who makes the Sailor V video game as a tool to train Minako, and often gives her weapons and accessories to fight.. He performs the same task in the live-action series, but not in the anime or in the Sailor Moon manga; although in the latter he gives Sailor Venus his Sailor Crystal, the Venus Crystal, in the fourth season. In the live-action series, he gives four of the Sailor Senshi new fighting weapons called Sailor Star Tambourines (セーラー・スター・タンバリン, 'Sailor Star Tambourines'?). As with the objects presented by Luna, it is not clear if they were made by himself, or if he got them from somewhere else.
