Arctagrostis

Arctagrostis is a genus of herbaceous plants belonging to the Poaceae family. It is native to the Arctic, found in the swampy tundra of America and Eurasia. It comprises 18 described species and of these, only 2 accepted.

Taxonomy

The genus was described by August Heinrich Rudolf Grisebach and published in Flora Rossica 4(13): 434. 1852. The type species is: Arctagrostis latifolia (R.Br.) Griseb.

Cytology

The basic chromosome number of the genus is x = 7. 2n = 28, 42, 56, and 63, with 9 ploids. 'Large' chromosomes.
