Arcelia Ramirez

Arcelia Ramírez Coria (Mexico City, December 7, 1967), artistically known as Arcelia Ramírez, is a leading Mexican film, theater and television actress. She is internationally recognized for her filmography that exceeds four dozen feature films since 1985.

According to the Economist, Arcelia Ramírez is one of the most prolific and referential actresses of this second great heyday of Mexican cinema.

Biography

Arcelia Ramírez Coria, was born in Mexico City on December 7, 1967. From a young age she became interested in acting. Her preparation and her talent led her to participate in film, theater and television.

He lived in France from 2007 to 2011, a period in which he maintained his work rhythm by coming to Mexico to film films as diverse as Las raisons del corazón, by Arturo Ripstein, or How I Will Not Love You, by Víctor Avelar. Meanwhile, her life in Paris passed like that of an anonymous woman who was beginning to form her family.

Throughout her career, which began in 1985 with the film “El centro del laberinto”, she has been nominated for important awards, such as the Ariel, at the Cannes festival, at the Havana Festival, at the Lleida Latin American Film Festival, among others. She has been nominated four times for the Ariel Award, twice for Best Actress (1997, 2000) and twice for Best Supporting Actress (2001 and 2003).

The first actress attended the 2021 Cannes Film Festival for her performance in the film "La civil", the first fiction by the Belgian-Romanian director Teodora Mihai. In the film, she plays Cielo, a mother in search of her daughter kidnapped by organized crime in northern Mexico. After the screening on July 10 at Sala Debussy, Ramírez received an eight-minute standing ovation.
