Antonio Joaquín Robles Soler (Robledo de Chavela, August 18, 1895-San Lorenzo de El Escorial, January 23, 1983), better known as Antoniorrobles, He was a Spanish writer, recognized for his humorous narrative and, above all, for his works aimed at children.

Biography

He was born in Robledo de Chavela, son of the rural doctor Félix Robles, but he soon moved with his family to San Lorenzo de El Escorial. His first journalistic collaboration was in 1918, for the Madrid newspaper La Tribuna, to which he would later send a series of chronicles of his first trip to Italy, titled 'Postcards in color'. 3. 4; (1920-21). He later traveled to Morocco, and also wrote the chronicles of this trip for the newspaper La Correspondencia de España , with the title of & # 34; Humo de kif & # 34;.

In 1923 he began to collaborate with the magazine Buen Humor, for which, among many others, Ramón Gómez de la Serna, Manuel Abril, Enrique Jardiel Poncela, Juan Pérez Zúñiga and Eduardo Zamacois also wrote.. Also in 1923 he published Tres (Novela de pueblo) , and, the following years, El archipelago de la muñequería (1924), with a prologue by Ramón Gómez de la Serna. In 1925 he published his first stories for children in the magazine Pinocchio from the Calleja publishing house, directed by Salvador Bartolozzi. Two years later, however, he began to collaborate with the Rivadeneyra publishing house, Calleja's competitor.

He collaborates with several publications, such as Gutiérrez, a humorous weekly, and Macaco, a children's magazine directed by "K-Hito" (Ricardo García López). In Gutiérrez he begins to use the pseudonym & # 34; Antoniorrobles & # 34;.

In 1930 he founded the children's magazine The dog, the mouse and the cat (1930-31), in which authors and illustrators such as Elena Fortún, Manuel Abril, Aristo Téllez and Ramón Gaya collaborated. He also collaborated with the magazine Crónica and with Gente Menuda, a children's supplement of Blanco y Negro, while publishing story books such as 26 children's stories in alphabetical order (1930), 8 stories about living toys (1931) and 8 stories about Christmas things (1931).

During the first half of the 1930s he continued writing both children's books and novels intended for an adult audience. Among the former, Hermanos monigotes (1935) stands out, and among the latter, Torerito superbio (1932).

In the civil war, Antoniorrobles unequivocally supported the cause of the Republic, publishing several collections of stories with propagandistic intent, including several versions of classic children's stories adapted to the contemporary moment. After the defeat of the Republic, the author and his wife went to Mexico, passing through France.

In Mexico, he obtained the chair of Children's Literature at the National School of Teachers, and established relationships with numerous intellectuals and artists. In the Aztec country she published numerous books, in addition to doing notable work on the radio, telling her own stories before the microphone.

For the adult audience, he published El réfugado Centauro Flores in 1944, where he offers, through a fantastic character, a sharp vision of the Spanish civil war and the subsequent exile. He also wrote essays on children's literature intended for teachers, such as Did the wolf eat Little Red Riding Hood? (1942). In his children's productions, 8 stars and 8 Cenzontles (1954) and Rompetacones and a hundred more stories (1962) stand out.

He returned to Spain in 1972, and continued publishing children's books: A poet with two wheels (1973), The tasks of the angel Gurriato (1974), while Some of his books from before the civil war were beginning to be republished, such as Hermanos monigotes.

In his hometown (Robledo de Chavela), in his honor, there is a library named after him. In San Lorenzo de El Escorial, a public school is named after him.
