Anthenatia
Anthaenantia is a genus of herbaceous plants belonging to the Poaceae family. It is native to Venezuela and Suriname. It comprises 11 described species and of these, only 3 accepted.
Taxonomy
The genus was described by Ambroise Marie François Joseph Palisot de Beauvois and published in Essai d'une Nouvelle Agrostographie 48, 151, t. 10. 1812. The type species is: Anthenantia villosa (Michx.) P. Beauv.
- Etymology
The generic name comes from the Greek anthos (flower) and enantios (opposite), referring to the problems reflected in the morphological interpretation of the spikelet.
- Cytology
The number of the base of the chromosome, x = 10 (?). 2n = 20.
