Anthaenantiopsis
Anthaenantiopsis is a genus of herbaceous plants belonging to the Poaceae family. It is endemic to South America: Brazil and southern South America. It includes 5 described species and of these, only 4 accepted.
Description
It is a perennial plant; tussock With stems that reach 50 cm to 1.10 m in height. Ligule with eciliate membrane. Leaf-blades convolute; 5–30 cm long and 2–4 mm wide; the surface is glabrous with scabrous margins. The inflorescence in the form of racemes.
Taxonomy
The genus was described by Robert Knud Pilger and published in Notizblatt des Botanischen Gartens und Museums zu Berlin-Dahlem 11(104): 237–238. 1931. The type species is: Anthaenantiopsis trachystachya (Nees) Mez ex Pilg.
- Cytology
The basic chromosome number of the genus is x = 10, with somatic chromosome numbers of 2n = 20, 40 and 41, since there are diploid species and a polyploid series.
- Etymology
The name of the genus comes from Anthenantia (another genus of herbs from the same family) and from the Greek opsis (aspect), which suggests the similarity between them.
