Map of districts between 2001, the year in which the districts of Chobe and Ngamiland were merged, and 2006 when they separated again.

Botswana is divided into 17 districts, 10 rural and 7 urban. They are administered by 16 local authorities (district, city or town councils).

In 2001, the Chobe and Ngamilandia districts were merged into one, the North West district. But in 2006 these districts were separated again, although Ngamilandia retained the name of Northwest.
