The Principality of Asturias (in Asturian, Principáu d'Asturies; in Galician-Asturian, Principao d'Asturias); uniprovincial autonomous community of Spain. It limits to the north with the Cantabrian Sea; to the east with the autonomous community of Cantabria; to the south with the community of Castilla y León (province of León); and to the west with the autonomous community of Galicia (province of Lugo).

According to the Statute of Autonomy of Asturias, the Principality of Asturias is territorially divided into councils and counties. The latter would encompass several councils, however this statutory precept has not yet been officially developed. Only decree 11/91 of January 24 establishes a division into eight functional regions or territorial planning areas, which are not strictly official regions, they constitute only a system to homogenize especially the data from the councils in regional statistics. carried out by the Principality.
