The protected natural areas of Cantabria, based on the assets and values to be protected and the objectives of their declaration, are classified by Law of Cantabria 4/2006, of May 19, of Nature Conservation, with the legal categories of national park (1), natural park (6), natural reserve (0), natural monument (1), protected landscape (0), areas of the European ecological network Natura 2000, which include special protection zones for birds (ZEPAs) and special conservation zones (ZECs), or natural areas of special interest (4). There are other protection figures, created by other entities.
