Contenido Currently, the head of state of the People's Republic of China is Xi Jinping. The powers of the current position are defined by the 1982 constitution.
The post was vacant from Liu Shaoqi's removal in 1969, during the time of the Cultural Revolution, until 1983, after the new constitution of 1982 restored the figure of head of state.
Terminology
In Chinese there are two words that correspond to the English word "presidente". The word used for the office of president of the People's Republic of China is zhǔxí (主席), a word generally reserved for presidents of political parties or congresses, but not for heads of state.
