Stations that have been renamed
Throughout its history, the metro network has seen the nomenclature of some of its stations modified, in some cases even on more than one occasion. Several of these modifications were made by the Franco dictatorship and were undone after the transition to democracy, while others have responded to the evolution of the environment of the station or of the network itself, and some stops have even seen their name projected It was changed before its inauguration. The table below shows those changes in chronological order.

1 This name only appeared in the project; the station was never in service with it. In the case of "Virgen de la Paloma - Valdezarza" the name "Virgen de la Paloma" appeared in the posterry of the works during the time they lasted, and was due to the proximity of an important Institute of Secondary Education. 2 On April 29, 1931 the City Council requested the change of name of Isabel II by that of Arenal to the Ministry, but the change was authorized on June 24, 1931 by Ópera instead of Arenal. On January 30] of 1933 the City Council again asked to change its name by Fermín Galán, the name of the square then, but the Metropolitan Company opposed it. 3 In line 2 he always set “Manuel Becerra”. In the works of line 6 the name "Plaza de Roma" was arranged by the MOP in retro-lit posters that were from the end of its construction in the mid 1970s and until the opening day in October 1979. These signs were changed by other exacts with the definitive name. 4 This change was proposed by the Government team of the Community of Madrid, and much of the signaling of the Network was replaced by hiding it temporarily with vinyls, but this change was paralyzed after the City Council negotiations to dismantle the stadium whose name it would bear. 5 This change occurred after the opening of the Metro station at Terminal 4 of the Airport, to indicate which terminals of that airport served. 6 This change is due to the confusion that produced many tourists, as it was not easy for them to find that stadium, one of the main attractions of the city.
7 In 2013, the Vodafone telephone company acquired for a period of three years the appointment rights of the Sol station, which became known as Vodafone Sol on 1 June 2013. The company also acquired the rights on line 2, which became called "line 2 Vodafone".
