Contenido Milestones in the history of knowledge of the genome
- 1866 - The laws of Gregor Mendel's inheritance are published in Proceedings of the Natural History Society of Brunn.
- 1868 -Friedrich Miescher, Swiss biologist, identifies nuclear DNA, nucleine.
- ca. 1881 -Albrecht Kossel discover nucleic acids. This German biochemical was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1910 for its contributions to deciphering the chemistry of nucleic acids (DN and RNA) and proteins.
- 1950 -Alfred Hershey and Marta Chase use viruses to confirm that DNA is genetic material.
- 1951 - First sequential protein: insulin
- 1953 - James Watson and Francis Crick unravel the double helix structure of the desoxyribonucleic acid molecule (DNA).
- 1960 - Determination of genetic code
- 1982 - Manufacture of the first drug based on recombinant DNA technology
- 1985 - Kary Mullis invents the chain reaction of the polymerase.
- 1995 - First complete genome: Haemophilus influenzae
- 1999 - First full human chromosome: number 22
- April 24, 2003 - The sequence of the human genome is completed.
