Annex: Athletics in the 1900 Paris Olympic Games

AjustarCompartirImprimirCitar

In the 1900 Paris Olympic Games, the track and field events were held at the Racing Club de France facilities in the Croix-Catalan in the Bois de Boulogne, which had to be asked for permission due to the lack of facilities suitable to compete. In these facilities there was no regulatory track for the practice of athletics, but an irregular field full of trees had to be set up and the grass had to be cut. The rope of this track had a perimeter of 500 meters, full of potholes and with a main straight line uneven.

An area was also set up for launch tests, full of leafy trees and with a reduced space for spectators.

In addition, in these precarious facilities there was no staff to clean the tracks and launch areas, so it was the athletes themselves who had to clean them up to get them up to standard.

23 athletics events were competed, only in the men's category.

1 Michel Théato was long regarded as French, until later studies revealed that he was Luxembourgish. Although his medal would be the first of his country of origin, it remains considered by the International Olympic Committee as French.
